Black Ness Cottage is within easy acess of the River Dart providing many opportunities for various boating pursuits.
You can take a short circular cruise from Dartmouth taking in the pretty waterside village of Dittisham and the mouth of the river; then there is the longer, more leisurely trip up the unspoilt reaches of the Dart to Totnes, another lovely old town which you can explore before returning to Dartmouth.
You can take sailing lessons at Dittisham or take advantage of the passenger ferry to Dartmouth, or why not try the fare at the Ferry Boat Inn or the Anchorstone cafe, both situated on the waterside.
If you are looking for moorings, launching or storage for your own boat then right on the doorstep of Black Ness Cottage is Black Ness Marine, an excellent facility for all boating requirements.
National Trust members can explore two very special properties in the area - Agatha Christie's home, Greenway, across the river by a short passenger ferry crossing from Dittisham or Coleton Fishacre set in a spectacular setting approached by car ferry from Dartmouth.
Walkers are spoilt by many country and coastal walks and part of the Dart Valley Trail is adjacent to our garden boundary.
Many other local attractions include Sharpham Vineyard at Ashprington where you can enjoy a tour and tasting or maybe an al fresco lunch in a beautiful setting; Totnes, a town steeped in history with its castle remains, Elizabethan museum and old Guildhall as well as the picturesque narrow streets, and Dartington Hall with its lovely old medieval courtyard buildings, Great Hall and glorious gardens. Dartington hosts a renowned international music festival each July and August.
